Club Sections

Each section is thriving and hospitable, with players ranging in ability, some of whom have been part of the club for many years. Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or an enthusiastic novice, you will find others alike and a membership option to suit you.

  • MENS

    Men’s Captain David Underwood

    It was an honour to be elected Men’s Captain for 2023-24 of our historic golf club and I hope that both members and visitors alike enjoy playing our course which is kept in excellent condition by Ken Ward and his team of greenkeepers.

    There are a large number of competitions and team matches available to male members, both midweek and at the weekend in addition to the Rabbits and Seniors events. For lower handicap golfers, there is the opportunity to represent the Club with 1st and 2nd Team golf, where you compete against the other teams in HDUGC (Harrogate & District Union of Golf Clubs).

    The 1st Team compete for the Scratch league and overall team league (singles and pairs scores combined) and the 2nd Team competes for the Bainbridge Shield. We also take part in the Yorkshire 3-man team events and this year we climbed from division 4 up to division 1 playing in games against the top teams in Yorkshire.

    HDUGC Division Championships (D1, D2 and D3) are played annually at different venues and give players of all handicap levels the opportunity to be selected to represent the Club.

    At a club level, we present numerous competitions to choose from, including knockout competitions that offer you the opportunity to compete on the prestigious Club Finals Day.

  • WOMENS

    Ladies Captain Charlotte Franks

    There are approximately 80 Lady Members who enjoy a friendly, social section with a high level of competitive golf We are a friendly section and aim to make every new member feel welcome. We offer both competitive, and more relaxed opportunities, to play golf.

    Our competitions are played mostly on Tuesdays and Sundays with regular Medals, Stablefords and Match Play events. We also run 9 hole Stablefords for those who are unable to play 18 holes for whatever reason. We enter three teams in the Yorkshire Ladies County Golf Association Inter-Club Competitions. Scratch, A and B plus a Friendly team for higher handicappers, giving everybody a chance to play different courses across the region. From October to March we also play in the Harrogate and District Union Winter League.

    We have a programme of Mixed Golf events throughout the Summer and during the Winter months we have a range of enjoyable non-qualifying fun competitions mixing up all handicap ranges.

    Harrogate Golf Club is proud to be the first club in Yorkshire to be awarded the R&A “Women in Golf” Charter. In line with R&A and England Golf principles we are committed to attracting more women and girls to the sport and encouraging them to participate at every level. We aim to create a friendly environment in which to enjoy the sport socially and to provide opportunities for both qualifying and non-qualifying competitions which are open to all.”

  • RABBITS

    Rabbits Captain William Culver-Dodds

    The Rabbits Section, with 90 members, is a thriving part of our Golf Club welcoming all male members over the age of 18 and with a Handicap Index of 15 or more to play social, friendly and competitive golf within this Club and amongst other golf clubs across Yorkshire. We can also help new members attain a handicap and find playing partners if wanted.

    We play over 20 team fixtures against other local clubs consisting of 10 – 12 players. Matches are mostly played on weekday afternoons finishing with a meal and social. Competitive matches this season include three Rabbits Triangular inter-club Tournaments a regional inter-club Summer League and a Yorkshire-wide Rabbits knockout Trophy.
    During the summer we play Saturdays for trophies as well as knockout Singles and Pairs trophies

  • SENIORS

    The Seniors Section is open to all male members of HGC over 55 years of age of all abilities from single figure handicap to the highest. We play regular friendly matches against other local clubs as well as competitions within the Club. It also has a Seniors Club Championship which is a hotly contested competition.

    A Seniors’ match, home or away, takes the form of two teams consisting of 12 or 16 players with a tee-off time usually around 9.30am followed by both teams having lunch together.

  • JUNIORS

    Junior Captain Harvey Auckland

    The Harrogate GC Junior Section celebrates its 50th birthday in 2023. Our thriving Section offers a friendly and inclusive environment for girls and boys of all abilities to learn and play golf, from absolute beginners to more accomplished players. Our aim is that Juniors enjoy their golf, but most of all enjoy being a part of Harrogate Golf Club. Embedded in the Junior’s development is our dedicated Professional PGA Sam Everard who leads our Junior Academy. Our Honorary President, John Parry, a former Junior Member, currently plays on the Professional DP World Tour.

    We have a full series of Junior Club Competitions throughout the Season. The Junior Golf Team represents the Club in the Harrogate District Union League.

    Harrogate Golf Club were awarded the SAFEGOLF Standard by England Golf in February 2021. This accreditation shows our commitment and achievement in promoting a safe and positive environment for all those participating, working and volunteering in the sport of golf.

  • MIXED

    Organisers John and Elaine Shepherd

    During the Spring and Summer months the Mixed section is very active and a thriving section of the club. We run several internal competitions and some external matches against other clubs.

    Single players are always welcome, and we’ll find a partner for any competition.
